A Muslim clergy man at the Bilal
Muslim Mission in Nakuru County, Sheikh Ali Samoja, has been arraigned
in court for allegedly trafficking a minor from Nakuru to Nairobi where
she was defiled by a Lebanese going by the name Sayyid Muktadha.
Samoja
denied the allegations and Senior Resident Magistrate, Paul Mayova,
presiding over the case requested the court to remand the accused at the
Central Police Station in Nakuru so that investigations could be
completed.
However, Samoja’s lawyer wanted him
to be released on bail noting that the crime had taken place in June
last year and the police had had enough time to carry out necessary
investigations. Bail applications were heard today with the hearing of
the case postponed to March 6, 2013.
A warrant
of arrest has been issued against Muktadha who is currently in Lebanon.
The girl’s father stated that Samoja was planning on going to exile but
was arrested in time.
